My Favorite Family Traditions

Just other families my family has many traditions. Some are every day but others happen only once a year. I love having traditions because they have so many happy memories attached so them. The happy memories is what makes me want to carry on doing them when I am older. I want to create more happy memories.

One of my favorite traditions is family dinner. Almost every night my family sits down together for dinner. My dad usually gets home form work around 6 and starts making dinner. So, by around thirty or eight we can all eat together. Some reasons why I love these dinners is because it is the only time of the day when the whole family is together. I also enjoy being able to take a break from homework and studying. The best part of family dinners is the food. My dad used to be an okay cook but learned how to cook well when my mom traveled a lot. We got bored of the same three dishes pretty fast, so my dad started to experiment. Now, many years later my dad is a great cook and he is always trying out new recipes on us. Sometimes they are hits and we have them over and over again and sometimes not so much. Finally, dinner has the best food then any other meal. A homemade meal doesn't compare with cereal and a cold sandwich.

Another family tradition that I want to carry on doing when I get older is the Christmas tree. On the Friday after Thanksgiving my family heads out to a tree farm to find a Christmas tree. We walk around the farm for what seems like hours looking for a tree. Once we find a tree we cut it down and take it home. That night we add lights and decorate it. What I love about our Christmas tree is all the decorations are unique and mean something important to us. Whenever we are on a trip we buy a Christmas tree decoration and take it home as a souvenir. The decoration is unique to the place we visited so our tree is like a capsule of all the places we have been. While the decorations we buy while on trips are pretty our Christmas tree also has all the Christmas decorations my brother and I made in school. These decorations are made from dry pasta and bits of cardboard. The decorations are different from one we have bought because they are made by 7 year olds but, we put them on the tree anyway.

I love all the traditions I have with my family and I hope I can keep doing them when I am older.

  1. I really love the sound of your Christmas tradition. It's so cool that you bring back a Christmas ornament every time you go on a trip! That's so cute :) And having been to your house and seen your Christmas tree, it makes it even more beautiful

  2. Your family's dinnertime tradition sounds so wholesome. My brother, my parents, and I, all have conflicting schedule so it's hard for us to find time to eat dinner together as a family. I love that you guys have made it a habit to eat dinner together everyday, and props to your dad for being such a good cook!

  3. Christmas tree decorating is a tradition of my family too, however we don't have as much culture as the cardboard hand-made decorations. I find that super cute and honestly for such an important family tradition, I might make a small decoration for our tree too.
